The following preliminary discussion drafts have been prepared in anticipation of business meetings to be held by Subcommittees of the Committee regarding the 2007 Farm Bill. These documents are intended for use as base text for the markup process and are subject to change prior to the relevant meeting. They are being made available at this time in order to help Members of the Subcommittees prepare. Markup sessions will be conducted in public meetings in accordance with the Rules of the Committee and of the House. During those meetings, Subcommittee Members will have the opportunity to offer amendments

Durbin Introduces Bill To Encourage High Speed Internet Access In Rural Areas
[WASHINGTON, DC] – U.S Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) today introduced legislation, (S. 1190) the Connected Nation Act of 2007, to encourage the rapid deployment of high-quality, affordable broadband internet service, especially in rural areas. The legislation creates a matching grant program to be administered through the Department of Commerce to assist statewide or regional public-private partnerships increase broadband access, map resources and build demand.
